On 26th March 2022, eight students from the Faculty of Science traveled to Taiwan to participate in the 3-day SDGs Camp at Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) in Taichung, Taiwan. The camp evolved from the collaborative online international learning (COIL) project from 3 universities: Chung Shan Medical University (Taiwan), Toho University (Japan), and Prince of Songkla University (Thailand). The students had the opportunity to visit Gaomei Wetlands for waste management and beach cleaning, as well as Shigang District to learn about aged care and making Taiwanese desserts. On the second day, the mixed teams explored and researched problems discussed during the online phase before the camp. On the last day, they proposed an action plan to tackle problems in the city of Taichung.

The SDGs Camp is their first in-person meeting after virtually studying together for a semester. The COIL classroom at the Faculty of Science aims to give students more opportunities to communicate in English and work collaboratively on a project with international friends. We are thankful for the great hospitality provided by the host CSMU and our colleagues, and hope to see more from-online-to-onsite classroom experience!
