International Joint Field Biology Course 2023 with students from Taiwan at the Faculty of Science, PSU

Arising from a long-standing collaboration between National Taiwan University, Tunghai University (Taiwan), and the Faculty of Science, PSU, the Faculty of Science hosted the “International Joint Field Biology Course 2023” from 18 – 27 June 2023. Professors from Prince of Songkla University (PSU), National Taiwan University (NTU), Tunghai University (THU), Walailak University (WU) and researchers from the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum (PSU Museum) jointly arranged the program at PSU Hat Yai Campus. The project aimed to provide opportunities for participants to gain knowledge about the ecosystem and to execute experiments.

More than 30 students learned about flora, fauna, and ecosystems of peninsular Thailand throughout the intensive 10-day program. . Participants have visited Mu Ko Petra National Park,Satun, and Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary, Songkhla, to study a wide range of habitats, including rocky shore, sandy beach, seagrass and seaweed bed, and tropical rain forest. Working in a team, students have strengthened not only their academic but also social skills. After the fieldwork,students had to analyze the data and present to the audiences.

Throughout the course, the focus was also on the exchanges of knowledge, research ideas, and culture, to create a network of cooperation for the future. It was agreed to keep organizing this collaboration annually to learn about the different natural resources of each country.
